PMIC - Battery Management includes a variety of power management solutions, such as s-8215AAG-I8T1U. It is a versatile system-level power management solution with its application field is in mobile and battery powered systems. It combines fast transient response, high efficiency and accurate power control performance while reducing the external component count and helping designers to reduce the total cost.

The s-8215AAG-I8T1U integrates three step-down regulators, one boost converter a multiple switch FET circuit, and power path management functions. It could deliver an output current up to 1.7A for the 3 step-down regulators and the boost converter provides a maximum output current of 1.4A. Its battery charger featured a 100mA trickle-charge current and a 1A fast charge current.

For its working principle, the s-8215AAG-I8T1Uhas two separate input signals, one of which causes an oscillator to transition between an on and an off state. This switching signal controls two N-and two P-MOSFETS that are connected in a bridge circuit. Utilizing the principle of pulse width modulation ( PWM ), the switching signal is adjusted so that the ratio between on-time and off-time varies with the current demands of the circuit. Since the resistance of the MOSFETS varies only slightly with the applied current, the signal is able to regulate the output current with a typical accuracy of ± 1%.

In order to provide proper temperature protection and long battery life, s-8215AAG-I8T1U also provides features such as thermal shutdown and battery protection. The solution also provides advanced digital power management capabilities such as power good control, dynamic voltage scaling and power gating control. Therefore, it is good at thermal and current overload protection, short circuit protection, battery over charge and discharge protection, reverse discharge and leakage protection and so on.
