Fuses

S501-80-R fuses are a type of current limiting overload protection device commonly used for electrical circuits in consumer and industrial electronics. These fuses are designed to limit the amount of current drawn by an electrical circuit when subjected to short-circuit overload or fault conditions. The S501-80-R fuse must be properly sized to ensure proper protection during an overcurrent event and should not be used for applications with current ratings higher than the fuse\'s rating.

The S501-80-R fuse is a thermal-magnetic type fuse made up of two electromechanical components, an overcurrent detection switch and a magnetically actuated switching contact. When an overload occurs, the magnetic actuated switching contact will open the circuit breaker, thereby limiting the amount of current allowed to pass to the circuit.

The current rating for the S501-80-R fuse is 80 Amps, with a time delay of 5 minutes at 500% of the rated current and a response time of 1 second at 600% of the rated current. The S501-80-R fuse is rated at 1000 Volts AC (UL Class J, RK1) and 1500 Volts AC (UL Class RK5). It is commonly used in industrial and consumer electronics, residential and commercial installations, and automotive applications, such as the overload protection of starter motors.

The S501-80-R fuse is constructed in a glass tube, which contains the two components, a cylindrical copper coil and an iron core, plus gas and powder filler material. The copper coil is composed of a coiled electrical conductor and a bimetallic element, which will respond to the thermal part of the overload condition. When an overload is detected, the bimetallic element will expand, causing the coil to open and breaking the circuit.

The iron core is designed to respond to the magnetic part of an overload condition. When an overload is detected, the magnetic flux from the current will cause the iron core to attract a movable piece of iron, which will open the circuit breaker, limiting the amount of current. The combination of both elements allow the S501-80-R fuse to react to both thermal and magnetic overloads, providing reliable protection.

The S501-80-R fuse is suitable for a variety of applications, such as overload protection for starter motors in automotive applications, consumer and industrial electronics, and residential and commercial installations. The S501-80-R fuse must be properly sized for the current rating of the circuit and should not be used for applications with current ratings higher than the fuse\'s rating.
