SB2 Application Field and Working Principle

SB2 fuseholders are devices used for mounting and connecting a cartridge fuse to a protective circuit. SB2 fuseholders are of particular value for use in industrial, automotive and other extreme environments. The primary purpose of the fuseholder is to electrically and mechanically connect the fuse to the circuit being protected.

SB2 fuseholders have wide application and are used for a range of electrical current ratings, for instance, from a few mA to thousands of amps. The fuseholders come in many varieties, including single pole dual mount versions, single pole/double bladed versions, and multiple pole versions.

The working principle of SB2 fuseholders is fairly simple and straightforward. A mechanical connection must first be established between the fuseholder and the load circuit. This is usually accomplished using an end cap or “coke” that is designed to fit the diameter of the fuse being used. The end cap must then be firmly secured to the fuseholder so that the load circuit is fully enclosed. To ensure a secure connection, the end caps must be secured with mounting screws, nuts, or clips. Once the fuseholder is secured, the fuse can be inserted into the fuseholder and the circuit will be protected from electrical overloads and shorts.

In addition to providing a secure mechanical connection, SB2 fuseholders also feature current sensing to monitor the load current. This data is then used by the fuseholder to detect when an overload or short circuit has occurred. When this happens, the fuseholder will automatically trip, disconnecting the circuit and protecting it from further damage.

Lastly, SB2 fuseholders are also rated for different temperatures. Certain fuseholders can withstand temperatures up to 120°C, while others are rated for only 105°C. It is important to choose the right fuseholder for the environment in which it will be used in order to ensure optimal performance and safety.
