Common Mode Chokes

Common mode chokes (CMCs) are a type of filter device used to reduce the electromagnetic interference (EMI) that noise sources create in electrical systems. These devices consist of two windings that are connected to opposite ends of a core material. The windings form an inductor that has a common-mode behavior, meaning that the magnetic field of the noise current is cancelled out in the windings. By connecting a CMC in series with a noise source, the EMI can be significantly reduced or eliminated.The SC-30-100 is a common mode choke designed to filter out common-mode noise in automobile applications. This cancels out the noise current, reducing the amount of EMI generated.In addition to reducing the amount of EMI, CMCs can also be used to shield components from Electric Magnetic Pulse (EMP) interference. This type of interference can disrupt or damage sensitive electronics, making it important to have proper shielding. When a CMC is connected in series with the EMP source, a large magnetic field will be generated, which will absorb or reflect the pulse. This helps to reduce the amount of EMP that reaches the sensitive components, protecting them from damage.CMCs are widely used in automotive, aerospace, medical, and industrial applications. They are an effective and reliable way to reduce EMI and EMP interference, allowing electrical systems to operate more efficiently.
