AC DC converters are electronic devices used to transfer alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). The most common AC DC converters are known as switch-mode power supplies (SMPS) and use a bridge rectifier to convert the AC power to a DC voltage. One example is the SDS150PS15B, a high-efficiency, single-output DC/DC converter designed for PoE or Point-of-Load (POL) applications.

The SDS150PS15B features an input voltage range of 4.5V to 54V, a continuous output power of 150W, and an efficiency of 93.1% typical at 5V/25.3A. Its built-in full-bridge rectifier and integrated multi-phase synchronous buck converter provide reliable and efficient power conversion. It also has an operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C and an MTBF of 1.5 million hours.

In terms of application fields, the SDS150PS15B is suitable for PoE and Point-of-Load (POL) applications including networking, industrial control, automotive, and medical fields. It is also suitable for other applications that require a high efficiency point-of-load power supply with a 36V to 60V input. This includes electric vehicles, industrial process control, field programmable gate arrays (FPGA), and automated test equipment (ATE).

In terms of working principle, the SDS150PS15B works by employing a synchronous rectification technique. This technique involves the conversion of alternating current to direct current by using one or more switching elements synchronized with the power grid. The DC voltage is then regulated through a voltage loop made up of a voltage regulator, a voltage detect circuit, a control circuit, and a switching element. In the SDS150PS15B, the switching element is the FETs, which are controlled by the integrated digital controller and provide a low output ripple.
