Optical sensors are devices which detect and measure light by using the photovoltaic effect. Photodiode sensors rely on the photovoltaic effect to convert light energy into electric current. A photodiode is constructed of a semiconductor material, such as silicon, in a p-n junction. Photodiodes are widely used as photosensitive elements in a variety of applications, from light sensing to sound detection. The SFH 213 photodiode is one of the most popular optical sensors on the market today, owing to its robust characteristics and relatively small size.
The SFH 213 photodiode is a p-i-n, silicon, reverse bias-integrated photodiode. It features a low reverse saturation current of 50 A, a low dark current of 0.3 A and a maximum reverse voltage of 15 V. With its high operation temperature of up to +85C, the SFH 213 is suited to harsh environments. In terms of size, the detector measures 2.6 mm x 1.3 mm x 1.1 mm making it one of the smallest single diode packages available. A package of the SFH 213 consists of one twin soic flat and one accessory diode, making it an easy to use and cost-effective solution.
