Optoisolators, also known as optocouplers, opto-isolators, photocouplers, or optical isolators, are components that use a light emitting diode (LED) to optically isolate two circuits. SFH1690AT is a popular optoisolator of the transistor, photovoltaic output type.

SFH1690AT Working Principle
SFH1690AT optoisolator works on the principle of an LED emitting light that is then received by an integrated circuit such as a photovoltaic cell. The LED transmits a light signal across a gap and is received by the photovoltaic cell. When light falls on the photovoltaic cell, it generates photoelectric current. This current is then used to generate a voltage across the optoisolator circuit.
The LED in the optoisolator receives power from the isolated control circuit and emits a light signal that falls on the photovoltaic cell. The photovoltaic cell produces a current that is then used to drive the output transistor in the isolated power circuit. This, in turn, activates the power circuit components.
