The sockets in the SFM-132-L3-LM-D series are designed to make it easy to plug and unplug. The socket consists of three parts: the insulator and contact holder, a locking mechanism, and a contact. The outer insulator and contact holder are made of polyamide 6/6 with reinforcement which has excellent insulating capability and excellent temperature characteristics. The contacts in each mated pair are connected using a specific mating order, and a lever lock is used to secure mating, while a cam shape provides unmating.

When inserting the plug, the contact engages the protruding contacts of the plug on the socket, and a slight pull on the plug activates the locking system. This prevents accidental disconnection due to external forces, e.g - vibration, as well as providing keying to prevent incorrect mating. The locking system can be released by pushing the lever horizontally or lifting up the tab depending on the type of lock used, allowing the plug to be easily removed.
