SG-51P 18.0000MC:ROHS integrates the PLL (Phase-locked Loop) IC device of Epson in the oscillator. Counter frequency step, providing PECL format output, using a digital filter structure. This helps to achieve fairly good phase noise specifications.

The oscillator uses a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) as its Timing Source. This is where the oscillation frequency is determined by the control voltage input. The output from the VCO is then divided in a Frequency Divider with a fixed clock cycle, and a frequency reference is often used as a reference signal for the divider.
