PMIC Voltage Regulators DC DC Switching RegulatorsThe SI-8050JD is an integrated switch mode voltage regulator belonging to a particular family of low-cost DC to DC regulators. This type of device is used whenever input and/or output voltages and/or currents need to be regulated to specific levels. The basic circuitry of a switch mode regulator can be broken down into the switching regulator section and the feedback control section. The oscillator is used to control the frequency of the power switching pulses and the current limit and power limiting circuits are used to provide protection against over-current and over-power conditions.The SI-8050JD is a single input, adjustable output voltage switch mode voltage regulator. The output voltage of the SI-8050JD can be adjusted from 0.8V up to 6V with a resolution of up to 0.2V. The output current is rated at up to 1.5A which is enough for most power management applications. It also has a over-current protection and thermal shutdown capability. In addition to its voltage control capabilities, the SI-8050JD can also be used in current control mode. This allows the output current to be kept constant even if the input voltage or the load conditions vary. It also enables the device to be used in applications such as LED lighting.
