The SI5350A-B04578-GTR from Silicon Labs is capable of providing programmable clock solutions for a wide range of applications such as test & measurement systems, portable medical equipment, industrial equipment, datacom/telecom systems and more. This device is a low power, high-performance digital frequency synthesizer with integrated fanout buffers for low-jitter clock distribution.

Working Principle
The SI5350A-B04578-GTR clock generator operates by combining an input reference frequency (REF_CLK) with a high-speed programmable oscillator called the Digital frequency Synthesizer (DFS). The DFS, which is a direct digital synthesizer (DDS), is able to generate 5 to 240 MHz clock outputs from a single REF_CLK input frequency. This DFS also has an internal phase locked loop (PLL) for operating as a frequency divider.
The DFS synthesis process starts with the REF_CLK input put into a digital PLL. This digital PLL maintains a steady reference frequency with a low jitter, and then feeds it into a DDS. This DDS mixes the REF_CLK with a set of digital words to produce the output. This output is then divided or multiplied by a programmable factor to obtain the desired frequency.
The resulting frequency is then fed into the device PLL circuitry, which is designed to clean a signal of its jitter and noise. This output is sent to an internal fanout buffer, where the clock outputs are generated. This fanout buffer is comprised of four channels capable of generating up to 10 outputs.
These clock outputs are programmable and can be used for many different applications. The output clocks can also be divided or multiplied by a programmable factor to generate different frequencies.
