Programmable Oscillators, like SIT1602AIB8-28S, are relatively hardware-and-software-based frequency control components which can quickly and easily control the frequency and phase of multiple oscillators in one phase-locked loop. Each phase-locked loop consists of two roots: an analog phase-locked loop (PLL) and a digital PLL or "DPLL." By combining the two roots, a programmable oscillator can accurately control the frequency of multiple oscillators in one circuit.

The SIT1602AIB8-28S are digital, pulse-width-modulated (PWM) devices which employ a complementary symmetry (CMOS) technology to reduce power consumption and improve performance. These devices provide a programmable pulse width to control the frequency of an oscillator, and utilize an on-chip phase-locked loop (PLL) circuitry to program the output frequency of the oscillator. The SIT1602AIB8-28S is designed to reduce the number of external components, simplify the control circuitry, and increase design flexibility. Its built-in phase-locked loop (PLL) configuration increases its ability to control the output frequency accurately and eliminates the need to manual adjustment.
