Programmable oscillators are a type of programmable digital precision timing devices which use an external clock to construct or transfer digital data. Programmable oscillators generally use an analog stage to construct or transfer digital signals, along with digital logic circuitry to enable the user to control or program the timing/pulse production of the device.

The SIT1602AIE2-30E is a Programmable Oscillators designed to provide high performance digital applications with closed loop analog drive and digital control loop. It is equipped with a frequency divider-accumulator, which transforms an external clock signal into a programmable output frequency with a resolution of 0.01 ppm.

The main features of the SIT1602AIE2-30E device include a high precision frequency step size of 0.01 ppm, a programmable pulse width of 10 ns, an integrated temperature compensation circuit and an integrated frequency overdrive feature. It also features a fast settling time, low phase noise and wide amplitude resolution.

The SIT1602AIE2-30E’s application field includes high performance digital communications systems, including cellular and satellite communications, FTTH systems, digital television and broadcast systems, ATM and WDM optical networks, communications and computer systems, digital timing and control circuits, digital power systems and frequency synthesizers.

The working principle of the SIT1602AIE2-30E is based on a closed loop frequency-to-voltage conversion (F2V) principle, which provides a conversion of a frequency-in signal into a control voltage, based on the desired period output and the actual period of the frequency-in signal. The operation of the device is based on a differential amplifier in the F2V section and a transistor in the control section, which act as the error comparator and signal buffer, respectively.

The device also features a frequency divider-accumulator and an internal temperature-compensated oscillator (TCO). The divider-accumulator performs the task of transforming an external clock signal into a programmable output frequency and pulse width, based on user settings. The TCO compensates the device\'s output frequency over a wide range of ambient temperatures and provides the necessary conditions for accurate and stable operation of the device.
