The SIT1602AIL3-25S operates on the principle of a quartz crystal oscillator. It utilizes a quartz crystal which is held between two electrodes. When an alternating current is applied across the crystal, it vibrates at its natural frequency and a voltage will be produced at the output. The output voltage is then amplified by a voltage regulation loop to produce a clean, saturated sine wave.

In addition to its quartz crystal, the SIT1602AIL3-25S contains a frequency divider and a digitally controlled oscillator. The frequency divider provides the ability to precisely control the frequency output by dividing it down from the quartz crystal frequency.
