The SIT1602AIR8-30E is a frequency-agile Silicon MEMS oscillator part of the Programmable Oscillators family. Programmable Oscillators employ a device comprised of a frequency-controlling element, usually an RC circuit with a voltage-controlled capacitor, and a logic circuit to control the frequency-determining parameters. The precise frequency of oscillation is programmed into the oscillator at the start-up by applying a voltage on its input pins. Programmable Oscillators represent a cost-effective alternative to crystal oscillators for applications requiring frequency-agility or frequency-tuning.

The SIT1602AIR8-30E is a Si-MEMS TCXO developed for applications including 5G NR, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, WiMax, 3G/4G/LTE-A, FemtoCell and Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS). It operates across an ultra-wide frequency range of 5.0 MHz to 30.0 MHz, using its small footprint of 7.0 x 5.0 mm and its low power consumption of 2.6 W. This silicon MEMS oscillator is designed to reduce the number of components in the system, resulting in cost savings and smaller form-factor. The SIT1602AIR8-30E also features high shock resistance of 20g, due to its MEMS-based design.

The working principle of the SIT1602AIR8-30E is based on its design of MEMS-on-CMOS. A metallic bridge built, on a cantilever, is connected to a clock signal input, and is suspended above the underlying CMOS circuitry. When an AC signal is applied, the bridge vibrates and runs at the resonant frequency determined by the hole pattern design. The vibrations of the bridge mirror the incoming signal on the clock signal input and outputs the clock signal with help of output pads. The bridge can be tuned by changing the static voltage on the top electrodes. With this feature, the frequency of the clock signal output can be adjusted by changing the static voltage applied to the electrodes.

The SIT1602AIR8-30E is designed to reduce the form factor of applications requiring programmable oscillators with its small size and wide frequency range. Its ultra-high shock and vibration resistance characteristics further add value to its design. Its cost-effective and reliable design allows it to be used in various applications like 5G NR, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, WiMax, 3G/4G/LTE-A, FemtoCell and Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS).
