Programmable OscillatorsProgrammable oscillators are electronic devices designed to generate a periodic signal that can be programmed, adjusted or tailored to fit the needs of the user. They are used for timing, synchronization and frequency control in a range of applications such as communication systems, computer systems, analog to digital converters and other related applications. SIT1602AIU3-18S is one of the most widely used programmable oscillator type due to its reliable performance and wide range of application.The SIT1602AIU3-18S is a single-ended programmable oscillator which provides the user the ability to program the output frequency, duty cycle and phase offset. It can operate with a frequency range from 10KHz to 150MHz when powered by a 3.3V supply voltage. It is highly configurable with two pre-defined reset/power pins and several configuration architectures.The SIT1602AIU3-18S is based on a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) process, which is capable of producing highly stable output and highly accurate timing. It also offers two different output types, either open-drain or push-pull drive system, that can be adjusted according to the application needs. The programmable features of the SIT1602AIU3-18S are made possible by the use of an electrically programmable oscillator (EPO) and a control circuit.The EPO of SIT1602AIU3-18S is comprised of a series of electrodes that are capable of being programmed through the application of an external voltage. The electrodes are used to adjust the electrical characteristics such as capacitance, impedance, and inductance of the oscillator for changes in the frequency, phase and duty cycle of the generated output signal.The SIT1602AIU3-18S is also equipped with a control circuit that is responsible for providing the programmable signals from the EPO circuit to the output terminals of the oscillator. This control circuit consists of several registers and a timing control unit which are connected to the external digital bus. The timing control unit is used to control the output frequency, while the register can be programmed to adjust the parameters of the oscillator output such as rise/fall times and duty cycle.The SIT1602AIU3-18S is the perfect choice for applications that require a programmable oscillator with various features and a wide range of frequencies, such as communications, automotive, consumer electronics and medical devices.
