Programmable oscillators play a crucial role in many vehicles and consumer electronics applications. They enable frequency tuning and also provide very accurate and stable timing pulses for a given system. The SIT8008AIU8-33E is one such programmable oscillator that provides easy tuning of frequency up to 400KHz and an effective operating temperature range of -25C to +85C.

The SIT8008AIU8-33E is an SMD (surface mount device) packaged IC oscillator that uses dielectric resonator technology with a full HCMOS logic interface. This particular oscillator is particularly suitable for high-speed communication in applications such as radio frequency along with peripheral clock generation in embedded designs and automotive applications. It has superior shock, vibration and vibration immunity for long-term stability.

SIT8008AIU8-33E uses a CMOS compatible logic interface for programming the required frequency enabling the flexibility of the system. The oscillator comprises of a low power CMOS logic circuit and a dielectric resonator. The CMOS logic circuit allows for a logic “1” or logic “0” operation which is used to determine the desired output frequency. The output frequency is optimized by the selection of the dielectric resonator.

The dielectric resonator is tuned using an externally applied voltage. This voltage level is applied between the logic control input and the ground pin. A logic “1” output corresponds to setting the voltage to a high level while a logic “0” output corresponds to setting the voltage to a low level. This enables precise frequency programming within a few turns of the voltage. The dielectric resonator is used to further optimize the output frequency.

The SIT8008AIU8-33E utilizes a Crystallogic Structured Architecture (CSA) technology which provides excellent phase noise and jitter performance, along with low power consumption. This particular oscillator has a wide range of working frequencies and also provides a good level of noise immunity. It has a very low ESD protection requirement which makes it a suitable option for applications with high ESD sensitivity.

The SIT8008AIU8-33E works on a frequency-hopping principle. The frequency is switched between two different frequencies at a certain rate.
