Programmable Oscillators are defined as \'electronic oscillators for producing time related voltage waves that can be set, adjusted and modified in order to meet the application’s desired output waveform, frequency or phase characteristic\'. This type of oscillator is an electronic device that is used to generate a stable, precision frequency wave in order to drive circuits or systems, taking an input signal from an oscillation source, waveform or waveform generator and providing an output voltage waveform as a result.SIT8008BCF3-28N is an example of a programmable oscillator, designed with the microcontroller-less Intelligent Oscillator technology to produce a waveform that can be adjusted to meet the required frequency, amplitude and performance of the application. It is a single frequency oscillator that can be programmed via a simple I2C compatible interface. The device features an on-chip temperature sensor as well as a programmable clock divider which enables fine tuning and automatic compensation of the frequency output to maintain an accurate frequency output.The SIT8008BCF3-28N programmable oscillator features a fast response time, low jitter and no-emission design, making it suitable for applications such as clocks, frequency synthesizers, PLL or frequency modulation (FM) systems. The oscillator can be programmed and adjusted via a simple 2 wire, I2C compatible interface, providing up to 32 frequency settings for the user to adjust for use in a specific application.The device also includes an on-chip temperature sensor and programmable clock divider which enables fine tuning and automatic compensation of the frequency output to maintain an accurate frequency output over temperature. Furthermore, the SIT8008BCF3-28N oscillator comes equipped with built-in error detection capability that allows for automatic system reset in case of failure and an on-chip programmable reset strobe that holds user-defined reset timing and synchronization parameters.The working principle of the SIT8008BCF3-28N is based on a digital modulated oscillator design, where the frequency output is regulated by an onboard oscillator that is modulated by an array of digitally controlled current sources. The output frequency is adjusted by varying the digital codes applied to the current source circuit which then modulates the oscillator frequency.The SIT8008BCF3-28N programmable oscillator is suitable for applications where high precision and stability of frequency output is required. It is an ideal device for use in frequency synthesizers, PLL and FM systems, clocks, and frequency generators. Furthermore, its on-chip temperature compensation and temperature sensor gives it an advantage over conventional oscillator designs. With its simple I2C programming interface, the device can provide improved reliability, reduced external components and better performance.
