Programmable OscillatorsProgrammable oscillators come into play when the frequency of an oscillator must be changed on demand or when different frequencies must be generated at different times. Typical programmable RF applications include cellular radio remote control and automated test equipment. Additionally, they can be used in applications in which a fixed frequency is outside of the stability specifications of a particular system.The SIT8008BCU3-33E is a programmable oscillator, which features a range of frequency tuning capabilities and programmability options. This clock generator has a frequency range of 1MHz to 40MHz and is designed for use with a wide range of electronic equipment and various technologies such as FPGAs, microcontrollers, memory, storage, communications and computers. Its compact size and low power consumption make the device well suited for an array of applications requiring a rapidly changing frequency.The SIT8008BCU3-33E is a 3-pin programmable oscillator, featuring both a chip enable (CE) and a programmable enable (PE) output. The chip enable input allows the user to pre-program the device for operation as an oscillator and the programmable enable output allows the device to be programmed externally via a serial interface. The charge pump generator provides the ability to change the speed of the oscillator on-the-fly and the SIT8008BCU3-33E is available with a range of frequency programming voltage options.The programmable oscillator is built using a quartz crystal resonator, and a charge-pump circuit. The crystal resonator is consists of two quartz crystals arranged in an L-shaped tuning fork formation. The combination of the quartzcrystals and the charge pump circuit enable the oscillator to be programmed to different frequencies. This is done by applying a programmablestimulus voltage, typically a combination of DC voltage and AC voltage to theoscillator, which causes the frequency of the oscillator to changeor “tune”.The SIT8008BCU3-33E is extensively used in a wide range of applications, such as automotive electronics, consumer electronics, telecommunications, computer networking, industrial controls and medical equipment. Additionally, it can be used in applications that require precise control of oscillator frequency and accuracy, including frequency-division networks, counter-timers and radio receivers.In the consumer electronics sector, the SIT8008BCU3-33E oscillator is used in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi devices, digital home media streaming devices, multiplayer gaming systems, entertainment/broadcast equipment, as well as data storage and communication systems.
