Working Principle

The SIT8209AI is a standard CMOS oscillator of the typical Pierce Design. In this arrangement, the collector (or drain) of the active device is connected to the oscillator circuit and the oscillator output is fed to the emitter (or source) of the active device. A capacitor connected between the collector and emitter breaks the feedback loop and acts as the oscillator frequency-determining element.

The active device for this oscillator is an internal FET and the transistor is biased by an internal resistor divider network. The internal resistor divider network sets the AC and DC current and the AC voltage amplitude of the oscillator. The oscillator frequency is determined by the external R1 and C1 components.

The SIT8209AI oscillator is designed to produce a stable, low-noise, low-phase-noise signal in a wide frequency range and is capable of providing high-speed, low-power, phase locked loop (PLL) solutions.
