Programmable oscillators are electronic oscillators whose output frequency can be adjusted by changing the incorporated components’ values. The SIT9002AI-18H33DT is a programmable oscillator designed to generate clock signals from 18MHz to 133MHz. It features flexible programmability and low jitter frequency synthesis, making it an ideal oscillator solution for timing and frequency applications.

The circuit inside the SIT9002AI-18H33DT programmable oscillator is divided into four major parts. These are the phase-locked loop (PLL) block, the prescale block, the output stage and the miscellaneous functions. Each block has its own purpose and together they control the frequency of the generated output signal.

The PLL is the core of the oscillator. It is responsible for generating the desired output frequency. It works by locking in the reference clock frequency and then applying various techniques to the reference signal to adjust it to the desired output frequency. Some of these techniques are programmable divider, pre-divider, phase-offset and filter adjustment.

The prescale block is used to further reduce the reference clock frequency so that it is more suitable for the output stage. It consists of a programmable prescaler, which is used to divide the incoming reference clock frequency by a specified value. This enables the PLL to accurately generate the desired output frequency.

The output stage is responsible for producing the output clock signal by taking the output of the PLL and applying amplification. The stage also includes a filter network to eliminate unwanted ripple or jitter in the output clock signal.

The miscellaneous functions block houses various support circuitry such as the low-dropout regulator and the power-on reset generator. The low-dropout regulator is needed to provide a stable power supply, while the power-on reset generator is used to reset the system when it is powered up.
