Programmable Oscillator (PO) is a type of device that generates a repeating pattern of electrical waveform with precise frequency, phase and amplitude. Programmable oscillators are implemented in numerous applications, ranging from communication, radar and navigation systems to soundcard-enabled audio applications. The SIT9003AI-1-33DB is a state-of-the-art programmable oscillator that offers best-in-class frequency stability, low phase noise, and wide tuning range. It is offered in a 12.7 mm X 12.7 mm package and can be programmed to operate as a free-running or phase-locked oscillator.

The SIT9003AI-1-33DB is capable of providing a precise and stable output frequency from 10.7 MHz to 401 MHz. It has a wide tuning range of up to ±1.6 octaves, enabling it to cover a wide frequency range with a single device. The device provides very low phase noise of -118 dBc/Hz@10KHz offset, making it suitable for applications that require low noise performance. The device has a highly accurate frequency resolution of 0.25 Hz and is capable of providing a stable output frequency even in varying environmental conditions, such as wide temperature range and power supply conditions.

The working principle of SIT9003AI-1-33DB oscillator is based on the frequency multiplication technique. It generates the output frequency by using the technique, which involves multiplying the input frequency with a fixed integer value. As a result, the output frequency is equal to the input frequency multiplied with the defined multiple. The device can be easily programmed by setting the frequency control word (FCW) and the frequency multiplication factor (FMF).

The device has two operating modes - free running and phase-locked. In the free running mode, the oscillator can be easily adjusted by varying the input frequency and external components. The linearity of frequency control is also good in this mode. In the phase-locked mode, the oscillator locks the output frequency and phase to the input reference frequency and it can be adjusted using a programmable loop filter. The SIT9003AI-1-33DB can be programmed using serial interfaces, crystal clocks and CMOS gates.

The output of the SIT9003AI-1-33DB is provided in a low-jitter differential output format with the logic level of 2.5 V. It is designed with a self-calibration feature, which allows the device to continuously monitor and adjust the output frequency within the programmed range. For optimum frequency resolution and stability, the device is programmed and activated through a self-calibration command initiated by a user.

In addition to high frequency stability, the SIT9003AI-1-33DB also features excellent harmonic and spurious suppression. The third harmonic and spurious content is less than -25 dBc, and the second and third spurious content is less than -35 dBc.
