Programmable Oscillators – SIT9005ACE1H-25SK Application Field and Working Principle

Programmable Oscillators are waveform generators that use schemes of programmed voltage level transitions to generate waveforms of the desired frequency and phase. The frequency and phase of the output waveform of a Programmable Oscillator may be adjusted or varied by applying appropriate control signals. Programmable oscillators are used in a variety of industrial, telecommunications, and military applications, as well as for general purpose waveform generation.The SIT9005ACE1H-25SK Programmable oscillator is an integrated circuit designed to generate a clock signal with a low phase jitter. It can be used in cell phone base stations, network switches, routers, and other radio frequency (RF) applications. The SIT9005ACE1H-25SK is designed and manufactured by Sitronix Technology Corp., and is available in a 14-pin 5×5 mm QFN package.The SIT9005ACE1H-25SK incorporates a phase-locked loop (PLL), voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), and crystal oscillator. It also has a variety of features such as a digitally controlled prescaler and programmable frequency divider. The oscillator includes a programmable duty cycle generator and programmable output skew for advanced clock system designs.The working principle of the SIT9005ACE1H-25SK is based on the use of a PLL to generate a stable clock signal with low phase jitter. The output frequency and phase of the oscillator are adjusted via an external crystal. The internal divider is set through a set of on-chip registers and controls the output frequency. The SIT9005ACE1H-25SK also includes a duty cycle generator and programmable output skew for clock system designs.The PLL of the SIT9005ACE1H-25SK consists of a phase detector, a loop filter and a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO). The phase detector detects the phase difference between the feedback signal from the VCO and the reference signal from the crystal and produces an output voltage proportional to the phase difference. This output is then filtered by the loop filter and the filtered signal is fed to the VCO, which responds by changing the output frequency. This loop continues until the phase difference is reduced to a minimal value.The VCO of the SIT9005ACE1H-25SK is controlled by an internal voltage controlled current source. The input voltage to the current source is a control signal which is generated by the loop filter, and the output of the current source is used to control the output frequency of the VCO. The current source is adjustable through a set of on-chip registers, which enables the frequency of the VCO to be programmed.The SIT9005ACE1H-25SK also includes a digitally-controlled prescaler and a frequency divider. The prescaler is used to divide the input clock signal before it is applied to the VCO, and the frequency divider is used to further reduce the frequency of the output signal. The frequency of the VCO, as well as the frequency of the output signal, can both be adjusted independently by adjusting the settings of the prescaler and divider.In addition, the SIT9005ACE1H-25SK includes a duty cycle generator that can be set to produce different duty cycle profiles, and a programmable output skew for advanced clock system designs. The duty cycle generator can adjust the duty cycle of the output clock pulse, and the output skew allows the relative phase shift between the rising edge and falling edge of the output clock pulse to be adjusted.The SIT9005ACE1H-25SK Programmable Oscillator is an ideal solution for applications requiring low phase jitter and programmable frequencies.
