Programmable Oscillators are useful components to create precise, repeatable frequency signals, as they are designed to offer a range of electronic solutions which provide accurate, repeatable and customised solutions which enable a designer to combine improved accuracy to frequency control, fine-tune clock frequencies, and reduce component count. Amongst many programmable oscillators, the SIT9005ACL2G-28EN enables designers to easily configure and verify a frequency output, ranging from 1MHz to 250 MHz, with a one clock cycle resolution.

SIT9005ACL2G-28EN has many different application fields spanning from communication to data storage applications. One particular application of the SIT9005ACL2G-28EN is relatively common in communication modules, as it features a fast start-up time of only 2ms and fast lock times of within 13 microseconds to enable better communication signals alongside data storage and system connectivity. Another application field of the SIT9005ACL2G-28EN is wireless systems, as it offers an ideal solution for wireless modules due to its high output frequency and extremely low jitter of as low as 0.5 picoseconds. This particular oscillator is also best suited for radio products as it dimensions of 2.0 x 2.0mm and is compliant to the RoHS directive.

As mentioned above, the SIT9005ACL2G-28EN is able to customize its frequency output, ranging from 1MHz to 250 MHz across a given clock cycle, with a one-clock cycle resolution as it is a Phase-locked loop (PLL) programmable oscillator. At the heart of the SIT9005ACL2G-28EN is a PLL based on a 3rd order frequency synthesizer, coupled with a charge pump, loop filter and frequency divider.1 The PLL has a wide programmable range thanks to its frequency dividers, Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) and divider ratio which is typically 12, 20, 24, or 30-bits. The VCO averages over three voltage thresholds and a current reference to generate the desired output frequency. The loop filter is one of the main components in the oscillation train, as it controls the speed of the PLL to ensure that it is firstly, stable, and secondly, converges quickly before achieving a steady oscillation. It does this by passing the necessary high frequency components to the VCO and removes the unwanted low frequency components of the error signals.

The SIT9005ACL2G-28EN programmable oscillator has a wide range of applications, from communication to radio products, data storage and system connectivity, due to its high output frequency and low noise. Its features include PLL 3rd order Frequency Synthesizer and an extremely low jitter of as low as 0.5 picoseconds, making this a great choice for a variety of applications.
