It is based on two voltage controlled oscillators, coupled with a system of frequency divider dividing or multiplying the oscillation that is applied in the system. The VCO is used to generate a sinusoidal waveform by applying alternating voltage to a capacitor and inductor. This waveform is then divided into a number of different frequencies, until the required output frequency is achieved - this can range from kHz to GHz. This oscillation is then stored in the memory, until a register is activated, which triggers the oscillator.
