Programmable Oscillators

Programmable oscillators are designed to generate periodic signals of consistent, adjustable frequency and phase. They are used in many diverse applications, ranging from clock and timing generation in communications systems, to precision clock synchronization and frequency synthesis in aircraft, military, and medical devices.One particularly popular programmable oscillator is the SIT9005ACR1H-18SL, which is ideal for use in a variety of industrial and communications applications. The main features of this oscillator include its wide frequency range, wide temperature range, excellent frequency stability and low current consumption.The SIT9005ACR1H-18SL works by using a digitally programmable frequency divider and timer to generate the desired signals. It is composed of two sections, a frequency divider and a timer, which are both digitally programmable to generate the required output signals. The frequency divider section can divide a given frequency by a predefined factor, while the timer section can generate a pulse of predetermined width, repetition rate and duty cycle.The frequency divider section contains two basic components: an analog divider and a digital divider. The analog divider works by dividing the input frequency by a preset factor and delivering the resulting output frequency to the digital divider. The digital divider then divides the output frequency further, by performing a counting operation on the incoming pulses. This is done by encoding the frequency information in a counter register. By adjusting the counter register, the digital divider can define the exact frequencies to be output.The timer section of the SIT9005ACR1H-18SL consists of a set/reset input, a clock input and an output. It works by first storing the desired pulse rate in the counter register, and then using the clock input to initiate the periodic count sequence. The output is generated when the set/reset input sets the counter register to the predetermined count, and then resets it when the cycle is complete.The wide frequency range, wide temperature range, low current consumption and excellent frequency stability of the SIT9005ACR1H-18SL make it suitable for a variety of industrial and communications applications. It is particularly suitable for use where precise frequency and phase control are required, such as in clock and timing generation in communications systems, and frequency synthesis in aircraft, military and medical devices.
