Programmable Oscillators are a type of electronic clock generator that is made to produce a stable periodic electrical signal. The SIT9005ACR2G-33EE is a frequency control device which is designed for industrial, automotive and consumer applications. It is introduced as a miniaturized DSC with an embedded RTC and precision frequency control.

Working Principle

The SIT9005ACR2G-33EE is a CMOS programmable oscillator that provides highly accurate and stable frequency operation over two wide frequency ranges. It is based on a high performance Digital Watchdog Quartz crystal oscillator with a temperature compensated voltage controlled oscillator V-CCO embedded in the package. The crystal oscillator provides a frequency accuracy of 0.25ppm over a frequency range of 20KHz to 80KHz and a 0.5ppm accuracy over a frequency range of 100KHz to 60MHz.

The frequency stability of the SIT9005ACR2G-33EE is excellent over a wide temperature range from -20°C to + 75°C, with minimum aging at -10°C to + 60°C, as well as minimal versus temperature effects. The integrated RTC offers accurate time keeping and periodic clock synchronization capability. The oscillator also features a voltage range of 2.7V to 3.6V, and a programmable current consumption from 12mA to 31mA at 25°C.

The programmable oscillator also includes an oscillator shutdown pin which can be used to further reduce the power consumption by switching off the whole peripheral control circuitry and keeping the crystal oscillator running. The total current consumption during operation might be reduced to a few micro amps, while the quartz crystal oscillator keeps working with a frequency accuracy better than 1ppm.
