Programmable Oscillators––SIT9005ACT1G-18NP

With modern electronic devices, programmable oscillators offer additional control and flexibility. Utilizing their programmable features, they can be used in many different applications, providing more customization to the output signal than fixed-frequency oscillators. As a result, they are found in many applications, such as radio and television broadcasting, audio systems, computer systems, communications equipment, and more.

The SIT9005ACT1G-18NP programmable oscillator is designed specifically for use in low voltage and small space applications. It can support frequencies from 1MHz to 28MHz and offers a wide range of output configurations. Its 4-bit code alignment is able to program up to 16 different frequencies using one common code, providing a very flexible solution for frequency selection. It also has selectable power supply options of 1.8V or 3.3V.

The SIT9005ACT1G-18NP utilizes a simple circuit topology. Its oscillator consists of a gain section, frequency divider, divideror, and output buffer amplifier. The gain section contains an amplifier stage and a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO). The VCO generates the desired frequency and it is connected to the divider to divide the frequency. The divider then passes the divided frequency to the output buffer amplifier, where the signal is further amplified. The output buffer is connected to a multiplexer, which allows the user to select the desired output frequency.

The gain section is controlled by an internal reference voltage (VREF). The VREF voltage can be adjusted by varying the voltage applied to the adjust pin. When the voltage is increased, the oscillation frequency will also increase. The divider is usually set to a fixed ratio, however, the user can program the divider to a different ratio using the code alignment module. This allows for more flexible frequency selection, enabling the output frequency to be set with resolution of up to four bits.

The SIT9005ACT1G-18NP is programmed using a single-wire serial input that sends a two-bit code. This two-bit code sets the output frequency by aligning the divider to the desired frequency. Once the code is received, the oscillator will move to the correct frequency. This code can be read and written to the oscillator by a microcontroller or any other programmable device.
