The SLM-510 is designed with two features - a small slot and a copper contact. The slot serves as a secure mounting point for a dedicated LED strip. The slot is of pre-determined length and it ensures secure and exact mounting of the LED strip at a specific location. The slot also provides polarization to the LED strip, thus helping the LED to work at higher power with no interference.

Once the LED strip is securely mounted within the slot, the copper contact of the SLM-510 makes contact with the LED strip and securely transfers the drive current and feedback signal from the LEDstrip to the module. The module then stores and displays the maximum amount of brightness/colour that can be produced by the LED strip. As the SLM-510 has a wide dynamic range, it is able to work with a variety of LED strips and its built-in dimming controls help in controlling the desired lighting effect.
