SM4T17 application field and working principle

SM4T17 is a two-stage low noise monolithic RF mixer from Infineon Technologies. It is developed using Infineon’s proprietary SiGe BiCMOS process and boasts excellent dynamic performance over a wide frequency range. The SM4T17 is designed to be used in receive and transmit applications in cellular, multimedia and general-purpose radio communications systems. It is also well-suited for a variety of applications such as: dual conversion tuners, high performance down converter mixers, and image reject mixers.

The SM4T17 device is a transformer coupled, double balanced diode-ring mixer with a typical conversion loss of 11dB and is specified for operation over a -30°C to 85°C temperature range. It has excellent image rejection of 45dB and a typical noise figure of 2.7dB at 1GHz. The mixer also supports a wide frequency range of 150MHz to 4GHz. This wide range of frequencies allows the SM4T17 to be used in a range of applications that require good NF performance and dynamic range.

The SM4T17 is a two-stage monolithic RF mixer that operates differently than traditional single-stage mixers. The first stage uses a three diode-ring mixer topology to produce a differential signal from the LO and RF input signals.
