LEDs, short for Light Emitting Diodes, are a type of solid-state semiconductor which converts electrical energy into light. The SMF-LX240IID-TR is one such product in the LED market that further assists with visual signalling. This ensures optimized performance, maximum brightness and unbeatable reliability. The product is provided in VCC (6.8 to 24V) and open coil conductor voltage ranges, with approved Agency certification including UL (file no:E51679), CSA (file no: LR30918-1), and ENEC – rated to market requirements.

In terms of its working principle, the SMF-LX240IID-TR is based on the process of electroluminence. This is straightforward: when an electrical current is passed through a transparent material with a P-N junction, electrons in the P-N junction will recombine with holes beneath the transparent layer, releasing energy in the form of visible light. LEDs therefore effectively \'generate light.\' This particular LED model runs at a forward voltage of 2.15V at the rated current of 35mA, with a typical viewing angle of 215°.

The SMF-LX240IID-TR operates at a wavelength of 635_659nm and is available in three colours of green, orange and red. This colour variation is primarily attributed to the P-N junction material that is being used, which is specifically located beneath the cathode. The type of material used influences both the colour and the brightness of the light produced.

Green LEDs are created with a Gallium Aluminum Phosphide(GaAlP) P-N junction, which produces a light with a peak wavelength of approximately 565nm and a voltage drop of around 2.1V. The Orange and Red LEDs are typically created with a Gallium Arsenide Phosphide(GaAsP) P-N junction, with the former having a peak wavelength of 600nm and dropping around 2.3V, whilst the Red LED has a peak wavelength of 625nm and drops around 2.0V.

A further advantage of the SMF-LX240IID-TR is that it is designed to meet the latest industry requirements in terms of high levels of brightness/intensity, reduced thermal pathways and built-in RF immunity, all of which has the effect of greatly reducing the amount of electro-magnetic radiation emitted by the LED product.

In order to ensure a long product life, the SMF-LX240IID-TR is manufactured in accordance with international safety standards. This includes International Approvals – CE, RoHS and WEEE compliance. The product is constructed from a flame-resistant material and is circuit board isolated to protect against ESD.
