The SMM-120-02-F-D is a type of rectangular connector in the headers, receptacles, and female socket range. This connector is a 120-pin surface mount, female socket terminal with a dual row arrangment. It is designed to enable the mating of two circuits via a header. The apertured tail contacts are made from phosphor bronze and are solder plated with gold. The contact tails are protected from accidental mating and movement by a shrink sleeve after wave soldering.

Working Principle

The SMM-120-02-F-D rectangular connector uses the principle of ‘pin-and-socket’ connectors. This type of connection system involves two mating parts, the ‘pin’ component located on the female socket, and the ‘socket’ component located on the male header. The 120 pins on the female socket are made from phosphor bronze and are gold plated for extra protection. When the two mating parts are brought together, the pins on the female socket make contact with the sockets on the male header, creating an electrical connection between the two circuits.

The SMM-120-02-F-D connectors also include a protective shrink sleeve which covers the contacts after wave soldering, preventing them from accidental loosening or movement. This keeps the connection stable for reliable data transmission.
