The SN75LPE185DWG4 is an octal, low-power, TIA/EIA-485-A and ISO 8482-Compliant RS-422 Logic Port Transceiver. As a driver/receiver, it allows data being transmitted between a controller and a peripheral device. By combining the system power and a low power level-shifting transceiver, it provides an integrated solution for applications used in EMI sensitive environment.
The SN75LPE185DWG4 is a receiver/transceiver comprised of an octal receiver and a bidirectional driver that utilizes an on-chip low power level-shifting circuit so that asynchronous data communication between data terminals operating at different voltage levels can be achieved. The built-in receiver works essentially in a receiver-only configuration. It allows systems operating with different logic levels to communicate bilaterally over huge distances through the RS-485 standard.
This device carries the delta Sigma-TTL class A and class B logic level protocol. The two-channel communication interface supports two-wire half duplex or four-wire full duplex communications. As a result, it is suitable for applications were two or more devices are connected together to form a network.

The device also includes three integrated low-power Schottky diodes that protect the pins against overvoltage, allowing the device to operate safely in a noisy environment. Also, the device allows bi-directional communications and can sustain simultaneous transmissions by multiple devices, which eliminates the need of additional logic components.
