Relay Sockets: SP2-PS application field and working principle
Relay sockets are used in various applications and the SP2-PS series is an example of one type. They are rugged 8-pin DIN relays with a very convenient socket. Connected to the relay is a PCB track that contains the wiring for the backup circuit. This type of relay socket supplied with upgraded circuit protection, a switchable screw closure, and a 12VDC operation voltage capability.
SP2-PS relays are useful in applications that require higher switching power and voltage ratings than standard relays. This series is rated for an 8MS carrying current with an initial contact rating of 10 Amps. It has a dielectric strength of 1000VAC and an operational temperature range of up to 60 degrees Celsius. The 8-pin installation is what makes this relay socket stand out from other models because it has 4 0.1” pitch terminals which allow the user to easily connect external devices.
These relay sockets are especially useful in applications that require higher contact ratings or higher voltages. It is perfect for switching motors with high power dissipation and high voltage inputs. In addition, it is also ideal for switching AC circuits, lighting systems and circuit boards.
The working principle of SP2-PS relay is quite simple and consists of two main components – the electromagnet and the contactor. The electromagnet is a coil of insulated wire that is energized when a current is passed through it. The coil is connected to a switch that when triggered, completes the circuit. When the switch is opened, the coil becomes de-energized and the contacts inside the contactor open, disconnecting the circuit and opening the relay.
The contacts inside the contactor consist of two parts – the stationary contacts and the movable contacts. The fixed contact is attached to a solid base and the movable contact is connected to an armature that is connected to the electromagnet. When the switch is closed, the coil is energized and the armature is pulled inwards, pushing the movable contact onto the stationary contact, thus closing the circuit and completing the energization of the relay.
The SP2-PS series relay sockets are highly reliable and suitable for use in a wide variety of applications. Its reliable operation and high switching power make it an excellent choice for switching high voltage inputs. It is also suitable for switching AC circuits, lighting systems and circuit boards.
