SP3222ECY-L (hereinafter referred to as IC) is a member of interface – Drivers, Receivers, Transceivers IC family, which provides two types of single channel bidirectional bus transceiver. It is designed for asynchronous 2-wire bus interface applications, covering data transmission over short distances at data transfer rate up to 12Mbps. The applications include the use of IC in the low voltage electronics industry, in particular in the design of RGB displays and LED panel controllers, the automotive industry, and the LED lighting industry.
The working principle is based on the Bus transceivers with direction control, which consists of transceivers with three-state output drivers. The direction is controlled by the logic levels on R/W (read/write) input, while the output drivers of both transceivers are enabled by the logic levels on OE (output enable) pin. The input of each transceiver is connected to the corresponding output of the other transceiver. In this way, data is bidirectional on the Bus data lines. The Bus transceivers isolate loading on the Bus from the microprocessor, the load attached to the Bus, or the load pool of microprocessor drivers. This can result in better rated microprocessor performance, lower power consumption, and greater compatibility.
The IC is capable of providing a high level of data integrity and protection due to asymmetrical power-on behavior, which means that the outputs are disabled on the bus before power is applied to the device. This is especially important when using bus drivers with low voltage supplies. In addition, the ESD protection is Improved on both the driver and receiver inputs, enabling the IC to withstand a high level of ESD immunity (±15 kV). The IC also features a reduced number of external components, with only three necessary for normal operation. The first component is an input capacitor for providing a stable power input for the device.
The second component is an ESD protection element, which must be of a type which can provide protection from the peak ESD pulses. It should also be electrically disconnectable and not cause any short circuits in normal operations. Finally, the third external component is a low-spread compensation element, which is connected between the VDD and VSS pins of the device and provides capacitive compensation between the power source and ground in order to minimize power supply noise. This enables the device to provide better noise rejection and edge rate performance.
