SP3222EUCY-L is an RS232 transceiver specifically designed to meet the needs of various applications such as point of sale terminals, modem, wireless and voice applications. It has the features of low-voltage (operating at 3.3V), low-power (−4.095 mA @3.3V) and excellent ESD protection.

2. Working Principle of SP3222EUCY-L

The transceiver consists of two line drivers and two line receivers. It converts full-duplex asynchronous serial data signals between TTL/CMOS logic levels and RS232 logic levels. The line drivers convert TTL/CMOS logic voltage levels to true RS232 logic level. On the other hand, the line receivers convert the RS232 logic levels to TTL/CMOS logic voltage levels.

The transceiver also contains an auto-shutdown and sleep feature. When enabled, this feature allows the transceiver to enter sleep mode when the transmit output data is inactive for a certain time period. This feature not only reduces power consumption but also extends the standby time of the transceiver.

In addition, the device provides a switchable 5V tolerant ESD protection which is able to protect the device against ESD static discharge without damage to the device. This protection is crucial for applications operating in harsh environments.

Not least, the transceiver also features high noise immunity which allows it to reject interferences from other power sources and noise generated from within the system. This ensures reliable performance of the transceiver in applications with noisy environment.
