Position Sensors have long been used in a variety of applications for the purpose of measuring and/or monitoring the relative position of components within a system. One of the most common types of Position Sensors is the SPD-4-3, which measures the angular displacement of an object in an application with a very limited range of motion. In this article, we\'ll take a look at the application field of SPD-4-3 and its working principle.
SPD-4-3 Application Field
The classic application of SPD-4-3 position sensors is the angular displacement measurement of clocked components, such as industrial and automotive crankshafts and cams, shafts of gears, pumps, etc. The color code provided by the SPD-4-3 allows the user to switch to one of the four positions without any additional electronic connections. The output signal of the SPD-4-3 sensor is linear, and therefore it is suitable for angular displacement measurement applications.
The SPD-4-3 is also used in linear position measuring applications, such as linear position stating and linear positioning in pick and place operations. The soft spring loaded sensing elements in the SPD-4-3 allow it to reproduce linear motion with good resolution and accuracy. In addition, the SPD-4-3 is used in pressure sensing sensors, indicating devices, and other linear motion sensing applications.
SPD-4-3 Working Principle
The SPD-4-3is an electrical switch which utilizes a spring loaded movable contact between two rigid contacts. The switch is opened or closed depending upon the motion of the movable contact along the axis of displacement. When the movable contact is in contact with one of the two stationary contacts, the respective output signal is expressed in terms of volts, in relation to the magnitude of displacement. Similarly, when the movable contact is in the position at which it is no longer in contact with either of the two stationary contacts, the output signal is expressed in terms of zero volts.
The SPD-4-3is mostly a digital switch, so the user can switch to the four positions without any additional electronic connections. The SPD-4-3 has two types of output signals: a standard digital output signal with three wires and a voltage output signal with four wires. Two electrodes measuring the magnitude of displacement output voltage, and a capacitor measuring the magnitude of displacement and temperature output current.
The SPD-4-3 features a silver-plated contact, encapsulated in a plastic body, which is stated for any rotational or linear displacement measurement. With a range of 0-180mV, the SPD-4-3 has been tested and proven to operate up to 200,000 revolutions or 1,200 meters of displacement. The SPD-4-3 is designed to enable a wide range of applications, including automotive use and industrial applications. It has a wide selection of electrical connections such as; Wire lead, Connector pins, and Solder tags.
Conclusion
Clearly, the SPD-4-3 is a versatile position sensor which can be used for a wide variety of applications. It is suitable for measuring the angular displacement of clocked components, such as industrial and automotive crankshafts and cams, shafts of gears, pumps, etc. The SPD-4-3 is also useful in linear position measuring applications, such as linear position stating and linear positioning in pick and place operations. With its precision output signals, the SPD-4-3 ensures accurate displacement measurement even in difficult environments. Overall, the SPD-4-3 is an ideal choice for applications where precise measurements are essential.
