LED indications are discrete components employed primarily to indicate system status and alert operators to operational statuses. The SSL-LX15YC-TR is a type of LED indication with specific applications and a distinctive set of operating principles.

Specifications

The SSL-LX15YC-TR LED indication model consists of a 3mm TO-39 metal can package and is an ultra-high intensity LED, coded yellow-green. It can operate over a wide range of currents between 20mA and 70mA and produces a brightness of 13mcd at a 20mA current and expects a maximum operation of 30mcd at 70mA. The LED indication is made with a plastic lens, that is colour transparent, and compliant with IEC 60529 standards for IP00.

Operating Principles

The SSL-LX15YC-TR is powered by a DC input voltage, which plays a major role in the proper operation of the LED. This DC voltage acts as the driving force that drives the current through the semiconductor junction and emits the photon light, producing the intensity and colour of the LED. Depending on the supplied voltage, the voltage drop across the diode and the current passing through the diode can be varied. The increase in current results in an increase in brightness, hence the intensity of light emitted is a direct correlation between the applied voltage and the brightness of the LED.

Maximum Ratings

In addition to operating with the correct input voltage and current, it’s important to follow the maximum ratings in order to ensure proper operation of the SSL-LX15YC-TR LED indication. This includes the forward current, forward voltage and power dissipation, which should not to be exceeded. The forward current should not exceed an operating 70mA and the forward voltage should remain below 2.67V. Furthermore, the power dissipation should be restricted to 130mW so as not to exceed the maximum ratings and allow the LED indication to operate continuously in optimal performance.

Applications

The SSL-LX15YC-TR LED indication is most ideally used for signalling and communication systems, where an ultra-bright LED is required. It is widely used in traffic control systems, automotive illuminations, and also in indicator systems such as power/mode indicators in audio/video equipment.
