The STR-W6734 is an offline AC to DC, primary switch. It is comprised of a high voltage integrated circuit, power MOSFET, rectifying diode and bridge rectifier. This device can be used in flyback converter and half bridge switching converter, and is designed to provide power supply protection, power regulation and safety requirements in applications such as consumer electronics and computers.

Design

The STR-W6734 is designed to provide overcurrent/overvoltage protection. It uses a power MOSFET with high voltage drain-to-source voltage along with a rectifying diode and bridge rectifier. This integrated circuit features near ideal switch operation, low switching frequency jitter, small turn-on surge, fast current limiting response and a wide range of operating temperatures. It also includes a frequency compensation circuit, a control input for gate drive, overcurrent protection and other necessary protection functions.

Working Principle

The STR-W6734 is used to convert an alternating current input to a direct current output voltage. The device’s primary switch can be used in flyback or half-bridge topologies. The power MOSFET is used as the primary switch, and it is the switch that is turned on and off to create the alternating current waveform which is then rectified by the bridge rectifier. The rectified output signal is then passed through the frequency compensation circuit, and then regulated by the overvoltage/overcurrent protection circuit. This regulation helps to keep the output within a desired voltage and current range.
