The STR-Y6763A is a controller along with an integrated power MOSFET, perfectly composed in order to provide a perfect balance between performance and cost-effectiveness. It is a category of PMIC or power management integrated circuit, and well fitted in the categories of AC DC converters and offline switchers.
Specifications wise, the STR-Y6763A has a maximum operating frequency of about 48 KHz, a switching current up to 13A and a temperature range ( ambient) from -20℃ to 130℃. It has a voltage drop of about 1.8V max and a maximum operating comfort when powered with a 3.3V supply. The error signal from the comparator is then fed to the pulse width modulated control block. This block then alters the duty cycle of the power MOSFET and ultimately regulates the output voltage.
On the other hand, when the device is functioning in the pulse width modulation mode, it works slightly differently. The internal pulse control block is responsible for generating a clock signal. This PWM block is responsible for the modulating of the duty cycle of the power MOSFET. For example, if there is an over load on the voltage, the duty cycle is reduced so as to reduce the power delivery from the source and ultimately, stabilize the output voltage.
Apart from these two control methods, the STR-Y6763A also incorporates two protection modes. These are primary over voltage protection and output short circuit protection. In the former case, there is a protection circuit which monitors the output voltage of the system. In case there is an excessive voltage rise, this protection circuit is responsible for turning off the power MOSFET so as to protect the system. On the other hand,in the latter case of output short circuit, the protection block monitors the current. If it detects an over-current situation, it then shuts off the power until there is a normal load on the terminals.
Thus, the STR-Y6763A is a very versatile device and a perfect variant of PMIC. It is ideally suited for applications that need cost effective, yet efficient performance. With its diverse protection and control mechanisms, it is a must have for any power management system.
