SY88236LMG is a special purpose current driver specifically designed for laser-diode applications. It provides robust and cost-effective solutions for DP & DFB lasers and laser-diode arrays, from telecom and datacom to CATV, sensing and industrial applications.
Application Field
SY88236LMG can deliver a wide range of laser diode currents from 5 mA to 200 mA This PWM input, adaptive current controlled laser diode driver provides the necessary high current control capability for driving laser-diode arrays. It has pulse modulation frequency capability up to 11.7 kHz, making it suitable for high speed data transmission in fast-data-rate links. Most of laser applications requires short rise and fall time of the laser diode current as well as increased efficiency and stability. Laser-diode drivers like SY88236LMG meet these requirements by providing a pulse modulation frequency of up to 11.7 kHz and a fast current settling times of 18 ns / 1 mA. It also has an input voltage range support of 4V to 15.2V, perfect for modulized interfaces with fixed voltage DC power supplies, as well as a wide laser diode current range from 5mA to 200mA with excellent dynamic range, ideal for high data rate applications like CatV and Telecom.
Working Principle
SY88236LMG provides cost effective solutions for driving lasers and laser-diode arrays. It allows for the modulation of the laser diode current via a PWM input. It controls the laser diode current reference with inter-dependent gain and off-time circuitry, which helps achieve the required laser diode current precision and duty cycle. The SY88236LMG also has an onboard error amplifier to convert the laser diode current into an analog reference voltage. This reference voltage is then used to drive the power section of the device. This consists of a low-side power N-FET which is used to control the laser current. The power section also consists of a high-side N-FET, which is used to adjust the voltage headroom of the device. Furthermore, the power section is also equipped with a built-in temperature feedback loop, which allows the device to monitor and adjust to different temperature conditions. Additionally, SY88236LMG also has two internal protection features, its current limiting and over-voltage protection. Current limiting is used to protect the laser diode from over-temperature, over-voltage, and over-current conditions. Over-voltage protection is used to prevent the device from going into over-voltage conditions, thus ensuring the device’s reliability and functionality.
