T/Y+JUG Connectors, Interconnects

When it comes to linking or splicing wires, the term Terminal or Y+JUG (Yoke and Junction) are usually mentioned. These two types of connectors are generally the same in purpose and use, with very minor differences between the two. This article will explore the application field and working principle of both the terminal and Y+JUG splice connectors.

Terminal Connectors

Terminal connectors are primarily used to connect, splice or secure wires or electrical cables into a particular cable junction for a circuit. They are widely used in various field such as the aerospace, auto industry and engineering works. Terminal connectors are made up of two parts: a metal joint or clip which holds the wire securely and an insulation which surrounds the joint or clip. This insulation gives protection against electrical shock and corrosion.

The working principle of the terminal connector is quite simple. A section of electrical wiring which needs to be spliced or connected is stripped and then inserted into the open joint on the connector. The joint has a clip which secures the wire in place and the insulation provided by the connector prevents the wire from becoming exposed. Once in place, the connections can be tightened up and the wiring can then be completed.

Y+JUG Connectors

Y+JUG connectors are also commonly used in electrical wiring applications and are similar in purpose to terminal connectors. However, the difference between Y+JUG connectors and terminal connectors lies in the way they work. In a Y+JUG connector, the two joints which are used to connect the wires have two parts; a y-joint which has two pins slightly flared out and a junction which has the pins angled inward and slightly tapered.

The working principle of a Y+JUG connector is different to that of a terminal connector because instead of having one joint which secures the wire securely, the Y+JUG connector has two joints which have to be secured simultaneously. This allows a tighter connection between the two wires which is more secure and less likely to experience electrical interference.

Once the wiring is in place, the y-joint and the junction are then tightened up so that the two pins of the y-joint are flush with each other and the pins of the junction are slightly angled inwards. This creates a secure connection between the two wires which can withstand the stress without becoming loose or disconnected.

Terminal and Y+JUG connectors are widely used in the aerospace, auto and engineering industry.
