These include their smaller size, lower cost, and low temperature coefficient, which allows tantalum-polymer capacitors to offer stable performance over a wide temperature range.Tantalum-polymer capacitors typically have a capacitance value range of 10-470 uF with a working voltage range of 4V-50V. Depending on the application, this range can be extended with higher voltage ratings up to 100V.The working principle of a tantalum-polymer capacitor is based on the electrochemical principle of an electrolytic capacitor. The anode of the capacitor is typically made of tantalum. This material has very good properties for capacitors, including high capacitance and high voltage ratings, which are maintained even at high temperatures. It also offers superior durability and long life expectancy.The two plates of the capacitor are separated by the dielectric layer containing the polymer electrolyte. When a voltage is applied to the capacitor, the electrolyte will absorb the charge, forming an electrical field between the two plates. This produces the desired capacitance between the two plates.The other main components of a tantalum-polymer capacitor are the sealing materials which are used to ensure that the dielectric layer is not damaged or distorted by external forces. This insulation also prevents any electrolyte leakage, extending the life and performance of the capacitor. Finally, the capacitor is typically filled with a non-conductive liquid that provides cooling and stability of the electric field.Tantalum-polymer capacitors have a wide range of applications, including filters and signal conditioning, bypass capacitors, pulse capacitors, energy storage, power supply smoothing, circuit decoupling, high-frequency snubbing and more.
