Some of the most common applications they are used for include voltage regulation, power supply conditioning, signal filtering and decoupling, and RF or high-frequency noise suppression.The T540D336K020BH8605 operates on the principle of electrical double-layer capacitance. This principle is based on the fact that when two ultra-thin layers of solid charging surfaces are brought into close proximity, a high electrical capacitance will be produced due to the physical offset between the two layers. The size of the capacitor is determined by the surface area of each layer as well as the distance between them.The two layers of the T540D336K020BH8605 consist of one tantalum anode and one polymeric cathode, which is why these types of capacitors are denoted as “tantalum – polymer capacitors.” As the anode and cathode are brought closer together, electrons fed by the anode are attracted to the cathode, thus creating an electric charge in the capacitor. In order to discharge the capacitor, the anode is then disconnected from the circuit, and the electrons return to the anode, thus releasing the energy stored in the capacitor. In addition to the basic two-layer structure, the T540D336K020BH8605 has additional features that help to enhance its performance. One of the features that helps to reduce the equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the capacitor is the unique cryogenic treatment that is applied to the electrodes.
