Tantalum - Polymer CapacitorsTantalum capacitors are devices used in a wide variety of applications and involve key components in many electronic designs. These capacitors are available in two distinct construction forms – wet tantalum capacitors and polymer tantalum capacitors. The Part Number T541X337M016CT8710 is a polymer tantalum capacitor that enjoys wider usage in the electronics industry.This particular device is based on an electrochemical construction and has a very low ESR value. This includes an anode barrel which is composed of a tantalum sintered slug, a capacitor element which is composed of a sintered tantalum core and an insulator layer (typically made of polymer dielectric film) and a cathode which comprises of a conductive base. The capacitor element is inserted into a barrel and filled with a non-aqueous electrolyte solution. The chemical composition of the electrolyte will determine the capacitance level of the element while the thickness of the dielectric tab will affect the voltage rating of the capacitor.The working principle of the T541X337M016CT8710 involves the movement of ions between an anode and a cathode in response to a potential difference. This charge exchange creates an electrical field in the dielectric material (polymer) which stores energy. An electrical current is then stored in the capacitor as the mobile electrolyte ions create an electrical field. When the application demands the stored current, the capacitor will deliver it by discharging the stored electrical energy to the load. This will eventually occur until the voltage across the capacitor drops to below the minimum allowable value.The T541X337M016CT8710 enjoys tremendous popularity in the electronic industry as it does not require any special safety legislation and offers flexibility in terms of its form factor, voltage rating, and reliable performance.
