  • Oscillators – TB-12.288MCE-T Application Field and Working Principle
  • Oscillators are electronic circuits that generate repetitive waves of regular frequency. TB-12.288MCE-T oscillator is one type of oscillators, which is widely applied in computer market as well as other electronics applications.

  • Application Field

TB-12.288MCE-T oscillator is particularly designed and produced for computers applications. It is mainly used in CNC machine, industrial control system, server, laptop, router and other electronic equipments. It acts as the time keeping device and makes sure the system works in a stable and regular way.

  • Working Principle

TB-12.288MCE-T oscillator generates waves with regular frequency by combining two integrated circuits -- a crystal oscillator and a voltage controlled oscillator. The Crystal Oscillator (XO) generates a fixed frequency corresponding to the cut of the crystal. And the Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) produces output frequency which could be adjusted and regulated by voltage.

  • When the circuit starts, the wave generated by XO modulates the oscillator phase while the oscillator amplitude is regulated by the voltage voltage controlled. As a result, the oscillation frequency is mainly determined by the crystal than the voltage. The frequency of the output signal keeps changing from one step to the next step.

  • Since the oscillator frequency is highly dependant on the external voltage, the output signal of the oscillator will change with the voltage variations time to time. Therefore, extra power supply isolation from the outside world is necessary to make sure the stability and accuracy of the oscillator output.
