Oscillators play a vital role in electronic systems, such as digital and analog systems, broadcasting communication, power supply, etc. TB-80.000MBD-T oscillator is one of the most widely used oscillators among the various oscillators nowadays. It is a hybrid-integrated circuit, which combines both digital and analog parts, and it features high efficiency, excellent performance stability and superior signal-to-noise ratio.
In the electronic system, the oscillator\'s core job is to maintain a continuous oscillation of the electrical signal. The oscillator is usually made up of two parts: an amplifier and a frequency-determining circuit. To be more precise, the oscillator takes an input signal, amplifies it and sends it to the frequency-determining circuit. The frequency-determining circuit determines the frequency of the output signal and then it is fed back to the amplifier, thus sustaining the oscillation (Fig 1).

The TB-80.000MBD-T oscillator is one kind of high-stability, low-noise oscillator. It can be used in a wide range of applications, such as radio communication, electronic watt-hour meter, frequency counters, and so on. It covers a wide frequency range from 8 MHz to 250 MHz, and features low phase noise, low power consumption and low jitter. It can become stable very quickly following power-up, and the frequency of the output signal can remain within the design range.
In order to get the required oscillations, the oscillator employs an oscillator circuit design. The oscillator is made up of three main components – the control circuit, resonant inductor (coil) and complementary feedback components (resistors). These components together form a parallel-resonant oscillator configuration (Fig 2).

The control circuit is designed to maintain a continuous oscillation of the electrical signal. The resonant inductor determines the resonant frequency of the oscillator. It is responsible for oscillation, which is determined by its inductance. The complementary feedback resistors determine the necessary current/voltage of the generator to make the oscillator work properly.
When power is applied to the oscillator, the control circuit will provide a stable voltage and current to the resonant inductor. Since the inductor has a certain resonant frequency, it will generate an oscillating signal of that frequency. The complementary feedback resistors will ensure that the output signal will stay within the design range. As a result, the output signal will oscillate around the desired frequency and thus the oscillator works properly. (Fig 3)
