TC-15.8682MBD-T oscillators are electronic components that produce a steady, continuous, periodic output signal typically in the form of a sinusoidal waveform. The TC-15.8682MBD-T oscillator uses the Pierce architecture with an N-Channel Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (MOS) transistor to produce a stable, low-noise sinusoidal signal with very low phase noise.

This particular type of oscillator is known as a dual-mode oscillator and has two distinct output modes of operation; the conventional phase-locked loop (PLL) mode and the discrete-crystal based mode. In the PLL mode, the oscillator uses a comparison frequency provided by an external clock to provide a stable output signal over a wide operating frequency range and with low signal-to-noise ratio and phase noise performance. In the discrete-crystal based mode, the oscillator uses the output frequency of an external reference crystal to directly provide a stable output signal.

The TC-15.8682MBD-T oscillator consists of two main sections; the amplifier section and the phase-locked loop (PLL) section. The amplifier section consists of two transistors and two capacitors that amplify the output signal from the reference crystal. The PLL section consists of a single transistor and two resistors that amplify the comparison frequency from the external clock and locks the oscillator’s frequency to that of the external clock. The combination of the amplifier section and the PLL section allow the oscillator to generate a low-phase noise signal with very good frequency stability and accuracy.
