TC-4.000MDE-T is an application field of oscillators. Oscillators are devices used to produce regular electrical oscillations or signals. The output from an oscillator could be sinusoidal or non-sinusoidal depending on the type. Oscillators have plenty useful applications in precision range and monitoring devices, such as crystal oscillators which used in quartz clocks, voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and RC oscillators used in servomechanism, and radio frequency oscillators used in communication systems.TC-4.000MDE-T is a type of voltage controlled ringing oscillator, usually used in signal generators. It is designed to generate continuous sine waves from 0kHz to 4000kHz with wide frequency range and low noise. It also has wide dynamic range, which is about 70dB, ensuring the high output signal to noise ratio. With a variety of frequency control signals, its output frequency can be changed through adjusting its DC bias voltage and AC modulation voltage.In TC-4.000MDE-T, the frequency of the generated sine wave can be varied from 0.2kHz up to 4000kHz, which approximately covers the whole audio range. Its internal circuit is quite simple, which mainly consists of a voltage controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO) and a voltage amplifier. The VCXO is composed of a quartz oscillator, buffer amplifier, varactor diode, resistor, and capacitor. The oscillator produces a signal that varies according to the applied AC and DC voltage signals, which are inputs from external sources.The AC voltage signal is usually modulated from a signal generator; while the DC bias voltage which controls the primary resonant frequency of the crystal is usually fixed. The adjustable capacitor connected in parallel to the crystal twice resonance frequency can obtain maximum frequency deviation. The resistance of the varactor diode can be changed through the applied DC bias voltage. When the resistance is low, the capacitance of the varactor diode increases, which subsequently results in a decrease of the primary resonance frequency of the quartz oscillator. On the other hand, when the resistance increases, the capacitance decreases, which subsequently consequently increases the primary resonance frequency. As a result, changing the applied DC bias voltage will vary the frequency of the oscillator.The voltage amplifier in TC-4.000MDE-T is used to boost the output signal from the VCXO. It increases the signal levels in order to meet the requirements of the subsequent stages. This amplifier can provide both positive and negative output voltages with no distortion.TC-4.000MDE-T is a highly versatile oscillator, which can be used in precision amplitude measurement, signal generators, signal to noise ratio measurement, spectrum analyzers, and many other applications that involve the generation of regular signals. It is a simple yet powerful device that can be used to create stable signals with a good noise profile.
