Working principle

TC1313-VD0EMF is able to operate in three distinct modes; Linear only mode, switching only mode and adaptive linear+switching mode. In linear only mode, the voltage regulator will start up and maintain operation with a single pass element in a linear path, controlling the output voltage and simultaneously the output current with an adjustable resistor divider.

In switching only mode, a single high side N-channel MOSFET and a PWM mode switching control is used to regulate the output voltage and current. The switching frequency is designed to be very low, providing a smooth, low ripple, low noise voltage source.

The adaptive linear+switching mode is the regulator’s most efficient operation mode, where the output voltage is regulated in a hybrid of the two modes.
